Meadows Field fighting back against airlines
By John Dabkovich
With airports pulling flights out of Bakersfield, officials at the county's largest airport are fighting back by getting their own planes.
Meadows Field has teamed up with three Bakersfield aviation companies to offer daily chartered flights to Sacramento. The move is a response to ExpressJet's decision to pull its flights out of Bakersfield. ExpressJet is the only carrier that flies from Bakersfield to Sacramento. The company's last flight will take off on August 23rd. Unlike most chartered flights where travelers pay for the entire plane and are allowed to bring as many guests as they want, the flights from Bakersfield to Sacramento will be sold on a seat-by-seat basis, essentially replacing airline service. But flying on a chartered plane isn't cheap. Tickets will sell for around $450. Chartered flights to Sacramento are scheduled to start on August 25th. |
