BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Amgen Tour of California will not come through Bakersfield next year.

The 12 host cities for the 2014 edition of the cycling race were announced Tuesday. The race will begin May 11 in Sacramento and end May 18 in Thousand Oaks.

Bakersfield has been part of the Tour of California twice, but Jay Rosenlieb of the Bakersfield Sports Foundation said the city didn't make a bid this time. Rosenlieb said his group plans to put Bakersfield in the running for future races, though.

Organizers call the Tour of California "America's largest and most prestigious cycling event."
