Frazier Park parents upset about bus pass

FRAZIER PARK, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — School's just around the corner for kids in Frazier Park, but some parents are upset, saying they're being charged for something that used to be free.
The El Tejon Unified School District is implementing an annual bus pass for their students. The pass costs $80. Some parents say that's $80 too much.
Jamie Corr has three kids in the district. She says the bus was free when she was going to school. She questions why it should cost money now.
The district says the fee is to offset a state transportation revenue shortfall.
District Superintendent Katherine Kleier says, "It's not something we want to do, it's something we have to do."
Some of the parents don't think that's fair.
"If they're struggling, they need to find solutions," says Corr.
Bethany Martin has one child in the district.
"The kids shouldn't have to suffer for the adults and our local government's mistakes," Martin says.

Who cares what other districts pay. Why compare? This should be included as part of Education. We pay for the Superintendent's car and gas to drive to Bakersield plus $130,000 a year for 3 whole schools. We don't have busses for sports and parents have to drive the kids to ALL sporting events and they are usually an hour and a half away. Oh except they bus the sports kids to Bishop and I never could figure out why we play a school 5 hours away. Sports cost me well over $500 last year plus the time to drive my son.
I realize that this seems to be insurmountable to some of you but I would like to say that I wish my kids had this option. My grandkids live about 7 miles from the school they attend and no it is not a rural community but a busy city, lots of cars and people which is scary in itself. They have always rode the bus...until last year...no buses whatsoever anymore. My son is raising his two children and works nights, doesn't get home in time to give them a ride to school. The cost to have someone else take them, he picks them up, is like $35 a week. Add that up...think of the money he could save if he had the option to pay $160 a year verses $1260+ a year. Please count your blessings because this could happen to you, you could lose this option and the bus service all together and now that would be something to cry about. Thanks for listening.
I think they should of come up with something for parent's who have more then one child. It stinks yes, but we need to just deal with it. Life isn't free.
Try this, walk or drive with your son or daughter to school everyday, at the end of the day go pick them up, you may actually learn something about what they are doing and where they are going, Your taxes are for schooling not transportation and babysitting, Yes some of you work try car pooling your kids with parents that don't or can take them to school, need a wipe too.....
@None You obvisouly have never been to Frazier Park. There are kids who live many miles away from the school and walking is NOT an option. There are kids that wake up and have to be on the bus by 6 am just to get to school a couple hours later. Please don't comment on things that you no nothing about.
I live in Canebrake, my son goes to school in Lake isabella, I know a little, try bussing 2 hours each day, thanks for your comment..........
FYI: "They" found a solution: for you to pay so your kid/s attend school. Amazing how only a few "parents" actually complained, yet the majority already paid the bus fees... and agree that we ALL need to do our part to move forward in this tough times. Â Free meals, free education, freeloader parents with their moronic comments: "I'll have to drive my kids to school 'cause I can't afford the bus fees..." Â Maybe... YOU should attend school and take some math classes too. Yikes!!! Â Is that a cell phone? a Manicure? but can't afford 40 bucks? Â C'mon!!!!!
It's not the kids suffering, it's the parents. They have to pay. Tehachapi charges 135.00+ twice a year.
