BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two Kern County Fresh & Easy stores will close in the wake of the chain's sell to a U.S. investment firm.

Tesco, Britain's largest retailer by sales, agreed to sell 150 of its lossmaking Fresh & Easy stores in the United States. Fifty stores in the chain - based in Arizona, California and Nevada - will be shuttered and are not part of the deal with Yucaipa Companies LLC.

Stores in Wasco and Delano will be closing, Fresh & Easy spokesman Brendan Wonnacott said Wednesday via email, a day after the acquisition was announced.

Four stores in Bakersfield – Panama Lane and Stine Road, California Avenue and Stockdale Highway, Brimhall Road and Jewetta Avenue, and Olive Drive and Jewetta – will remain open.

Wonnacott didn't say when the Wasco and Delano stores will close or if any of those employees will be offered jobs in other locations.

Tesco said in April it planned to sell its Fresh & Easy chain, which had losses of about $1.8 billion at that time.
