BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- An admitted child molester held a frank conversation Monday with Eyewitness News.

The man, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said he molested a 7-year-old girl when he was 19 years old.

"There wasn't someone to say we were spending too much time together. Nobody paid close attention," said the man, speaking as a warning to parents about the signs they need to catch to avoid sexual predators.

The man said he became friends with a girl from his neighborhood, spending four of five days a week with her. He said he felt comfortable enough with the girl after a year to grope and disrobe her.

The girl finally spoke up during a school counseling session several years later, and the man ultimately spent eight months in jail.
