Downtown bar gets boost from Super Bowl
By Sabrina Rodriguez, Eyewitness News
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Super Bowl XLIV has come and gone.
While some people chose to watch the game at home, others went to their favorite bar, which was a big boost to local businesses. "Very huge day for us. Very huge," said Lisa Harris, manager at Tailgaters in downtown Bakersfield. Tailgaters' customers on Sunday could be seen sporting the black and gold or blue and white. However, it was clear which team was the favorite. "This is Saints today. Go Saints," said Harris. "We got a couple Colts fans, but they were getting the boos." Still, the fans flocked. And with the economy being down, Harris said the Super Bowl lends a helping hand. Though Tailgaters does its part to draw in customers, too. "We have great food specials for events like today," said Harris. She added another reason people wanted to come watch the big game there instead of at home. "I think it's all the televisions we have," Harris said. The fans agreed. "I love being here, the food, the people, even though I'm out-numbered by Saints fans," laughed Colts fan Humberto Berumen. Saints support Marshall Sanders said he came to Tailgaters because he's there three or four times a week anyway. "It's almost like if I miss a day then the next time I come in they'll say, 'Hey! Where've you been?' It's kind of like Cheers," joked Sanders. Tailgaters will now set its sights on March Madness. |
