Patrolling officers find shooting victim

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A man was shot and killed Thursday morning on 28th Street just west of San Dimas Street.

Officers were on patrol when they heard gunfire nearby. When police arrived on scene, they discovered 45-year-old Joe Louis Wooton Jr. behind the steering wheel of a white station wagon and suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police said the Wooton, who died on scene, was driving when shooters on foot fired multiple shots.

No suspect information has been released.
