Alton Riley, 37, and his passenger, Brian Bland, 24, were allegedly speeding on Columbus Street in the northeast part of the city when officers tried to pull them over. The suspects refused to stop, and the chase was on.

The men tossed a loaded gun from their car at one point, police said. The gun was recovered.

The chase ended soon after the suspects crashed into a pickup near the intersection of Manor and Ferguson in Oildale. Both men took off on foot but were caught in two different backyards.

Riley was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, resisting arrest, felon in possession of a loaded firearm, parole violation and hit-and-run. Bland was arrested on suspicion of felony resisting arrest, felon in possession of a loaded firearm and parole violation.

Bland allegedly tried to grab the gun out of the holster of the officer who was arresting him.

Both suspects were treated at Kern Medical Center for unspecified injuries. The driver of the pickup they crashed into was unharmed.
