BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A prominent Kern County official died Thursday, making him the county's 11th death related to the H1N1 virus.

Darrel Hildebrand, 56, was the longtime assistant director of the Kern Council of Governments and one of the county's top planning officials.

Kern Council of Governments Director Ron Brummett said Friday that a blood test confirmed Hildebrand had the swine flu.

Hildebrand, like most casualties of the swine flu, had underlying health conditions. He had several health problems, including asthma, according to Brummett.
