Voters overwhelmingly approve tax hike for new hospital
By Eyewitness News staff
TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- Nearly 70 percent of voters approved a bond measure Tuesday to fund the construction of a new hospital.
A property tax hike would cover the cost of building a multi-million dollar facility, which would include 25 private rooms, four intensive-care rooms, 16 surgical beds and a maternity wing, according to CEO Ron Burgess. In addition to the new space, Burgess said critical equipment, such as an out-of-date CAT scan, can be replaced. The current hospital in Tehachapi was built in the 1950s. The plans for the new hospital now must go to the state for approval, which is expected to happen in March. A groundbreaking could happen late next year. |
