BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A second child has drowned in a backyard pool in as many days.

Meanwhile, it's unknown if a third child drowned Tuesday evening.

A 3-year-old girl was found unresponsive Tuesday in a pool on the 1300 block of Shattuck Avenue. That child, whose name has been withheld, died about an hour later at Kern Medical Center, according to the Kern County Coroner's office.

Around the same time that evening, a 2-year-old boy was found in a pool on the 3700 block of Piedmont Avenue. CPR was performed and the boy was taken to Mercy Southwest Hospital, according to the Kern County Fire Department. It's unknown if the boy survived.

The workweek began with a drowning on the 4100 block of Hinsdale Avenue. Xander Graham Maxwell, 2, died Monday night at Memorial Hospital after being found unresponsive at the bottom of a swimming pool.
