Alleged drunk driver hits, kills cyclist

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- An alleged drunk driver hit and killed a cyclist Monday night on South Union Avenue.
Douglas Kaiser, 67, was allegedly driving a Ford F-350 pickup about 8:40 p.m. southbound on Union when he veered to the right and struck Alton Saceaux, 55, who was riding a bicycle. Saceaux was thrown off his bike and sustained fatal injuries, according to a California Highway Patrol news release. Kaiser initially fled the scene but returned and was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing death and hit-and-run causing death. Kaiser was released from jail Tuesday after posting $130,000 bail. |
