A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to 17.5 years in prison for receiving and distributing child pornography.

Michael Hollis, formerly of Bakersfield, will also have 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender after Monday's sentencing, according to a U.S. Department of Justice news release.

Hollis was using peer-to-peer filing sharing programs to exchange child porn via the Internet, authorities said. He was arrested in August after a computer was seized from his home that contained about 2,229 still images and 244 videos of child porn.

The court noted during sentencing that the material Hollis possessed was "alien, inhumane, despicable" and some of the worst images ever viewed by the court, according to the DOJ news release.
