An inmate at California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi was fatally stabbed Monday in the prison's yard.

Evan Broderick, 20, was allegedly stabbed numerous times by two other inmates, according to a California Correctional Institution news release.

Broderick was serving a three-year sentence out of Sonoma County for grand theft.

The suspects are 26-year-old Travis Frazier and 29-year-old Kenneth Nowlin. Frazier is serving a life sentence without parole for a first-degree murder conviction out of Orange County, and Nowlin is serving a 40-year sentence out of San Diego County for second-degree robbery and a consecutive sentence for second-degree murder.

No staff members were injured during the incident.

No motive has been announced, and the stabbing is being investigated by prison officials, the inspector general's office and the Kern County District Attorney's Office.

California Correctional Institution is a minimum- to maximum-security prison that houses more than 5,800 inmates.
