Seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong rode his cycle Thursday through northern Kern County.
Armstrong was competing in the Tour of California, a nine-day event that was in its fifth stage. A portion of Highway 46 west of Interstate 5 was scheduled to be closed for a couple hours in the early afternoon to accommodate the race. The riders were expected to enter northwest Kern County about 1 p.m. en route to San Luis Obispo County. The riders were slated to race along Kings Road to Twisselman and Kecks roads, northwest of Lost Hills. Armstrong finished the previous day's stage — from Merced to Clovis — 30 seconds behind leader Levi Leipheimer. Santa Rosa's Leipheimer has won the last two Tour of California titles. The fourth-year race concludes Sunday in Escondido. _____________ Associated Press information was used in this report. |
