Many residents in the Kern County community of Frazier Park are fired up over new no burn regulations.

Chuck and Sandra Woerner are two of many residents who use their fireplaces to heat their homes. Chuck Woerner says burning wood saves them half on their monthly heating bills.

The issue under fire is how the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District goes about setting its no burn days. Currently, Frazier Park is bundled in with Bakersfield and Arvin, something that Woerner feels makes no sense.

"We are so far removed from Bakersfield, burning wood here would have no effect on the effect of the air quality," he says.

It's an argument that is making some officials stop and think. Brenda Turner, spokesperson for the Valley Air District, says they have recently acquired an air monitoring system that will allow for a more detailed forecast of the area.

The board plans to meet in February to discuss the current system as well as if Frazier Park will receive their own forecast area.
