The 60-year-old Tehachapi woman most widely known by the alias Anita Gilbert must undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine if she should stand trial on animal cruelty charges.

Judge Michael Lewis gave the order Friday after the woman's court-appointed attorney made a motion for the evaluation, according to court records.

The accused woman, whose real name is Cynthia Gudger, was arrested most recently in late October after skipping a court appearance in August for animal cruelty charges. Gudger was arrested in July after Kern County Animal Control officers seized about 50 cats and dogs from what they called filthy conditions at the woman's home near Tehachapi.

Gudger has a history of hoarding and abusing animals and a history of using aliases, according to law enforcement officials.

When she was tracked down by a bail bondsman last month, Gudger was staying in an Oxnard motel with about 20 cats, including one dead cat in a freezer. In 2006, Gudger was accused of abusing animals in Riverside County while using the alias of Barbara Ryan.
