Comedy Central funnyman Stephen Colbert has now outraged some online followers, after what's being called an offensive tweet was made on his Colbert Report account.
Here's what it said (@ColbertReport on March 27): "I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever."
The message, posted Thursday afternoon, played off a segment shown on the Colbert Report Wednesday night. The show was poking fun at Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder, after he recently announced a new Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation.
Colbert mocked the foundation as an attempt to drum up support, after the NFL team's controversial and so-called racist name caused a backlash.
Offended readers slammed the message and spawned a #CancelColbert hashtag. Some say the tweet was taken out of context, while others say Colbert is just as racist as those he makes fun of. The tweet was later removed.
Early Friday morning Colbert took to Twitter himself, writing that the offending tweet sent from his show's verified Twitter account was not written by him, and he didn't know who wrote it.
