Can weight loss hurt your romance?

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Losing weight is usually a good thing. You feel lighter, healthier and you can ditch those Spanx.

But, a new survey has found that there's a dark side to dieting. Researchers at North Carolina State University and the University of Texas called on nearly two dozens couples, in which one partner had dropped 30 pounds or more. Many were happier with the weight loss, both emotionally and sexually, but other couples complained that the thinner partner began nagging their other half to hit the gym.

In some cases, the partner who didn't lose weight became disinterested in sex and even began tempting the leaner partner into eating fatty foods.

One Los Angeles psychotherapist says weight loss can sometimes trigger people's insecurities, and also fear that the thinner partner will become attractive to other people. Experts recommend one strategy is to diet and exercise together.
