5/18/09 - Follow Up, German Robledo's rubik's cube speed solving competition
The Rubik's Cube is something most people can't solve. But these kids at Golden Valley High School are proof that you can do anything you put your mind to.

In fact, Dakotah Wolford is just a freshman, but already he holds the title as the fastest Rubik's Cube solver at Golden Valley.

"It's pretty crazy. Not everyone can do it, and if you're the fastest, it's like double the excitement," said Dakotah.

Dakotah's winning time was a minute and four seconds, beating out about 20 other kids in the competition. His personal best though? Around 40 seconds and faster than his teacher .

"It was pretty cool because he was the one that taught us so it's like ahh. I'm faster than you. Pretty cool," explained Dakotah.

Teacher German Robledo has started a fad. Kids are solving the puzzle at lunch, in class...

"A lot of teachers are upset," said Robledo.

But the lessons learned, go far beyond just the Rubik's Cube.

"Now they realize with a little work, effort, nothing is impossible," said Robledo.

"If it doesn't work out the first time, don't stop, because eventually you'll get it," advised Dakotah.

So, even though this was the first event, Robledo says you can bet there will be another one next year. And he says he's hoping the Rubik's Cube will catch on at other schools so that it could one day grow to be a district wide event.
