With your help, Point Loma Nazarene University's School of Education and Eye Out For You.com are acknowledging the men and women that govern the Kern County K-12 schools through the Prize Principal Program.

The position of school Principal carries tremendous responsibility. Ultimately, these responsibilities impact every child’s education. Meeting the standards listed below ensures that students are given the best opportunity to meet the high standards of learning established by their school districts. Entries are voted on by a selection committee made up of educators and administrators throughout the Kern County area.

A Prize Principal is announced each month. The winning Principal will receive a commemorative plaque and a party with their staff provided by Outback Steakhouse. PLUS the winners will be entered in a drawing for a summer vacation.

The School of Education at Point Loma Nazarene University is committed to preparing well trained school leaders with the administrative knowledge, skills and human dynamics to meet the great breadth of needs of students, educators, and parents. Nominations for School Principals should address one or more of the following professional standards. A school administrator is an educational leader promoting the success of all students by:

1. Facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community

2. Advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth

3. Ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient and effective learning environment

4. Collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources

5. Modeling a personal code of ethics and developing professional leadership capacity

6. Understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context
