TEHACHAPI, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- A woman is hospitalized with burn injuries following an early morning fire in Tehachapi. She was pulled from the flames by a firefighter who used his hands to tear a hole into the home when he heard her screams for help.
The fire in the 21200 block of Mission Street was reported around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
The firefighter literally used his bare hands to rescue her, said Corey Wilford with the Kern County Fire Department. He saw her feet and grabbed hold and pulled her to safety.
The woman who is around 40-years-old was taken by air ambulance to a burn center for treatment.
The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known.
