TEHACHAPI, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A plane crash near Tehachapi seriously injured one of three men who were on board Saturday afternoon.

It marked the second plane crash for the day in Kern County. The first, in a corn field off Old River Road and Bear Mountain Boulevard, was an ultra-light with two people on board. Their injuries were reported to be minor. That plane caught fire after it took down power lines.

The plane in the Tehachapi crash was a Piper registered to a 37-year-old man in Prescott, Ariz.

Kern County Fire Engineer Leland Davis said it went down in a field in the 17501 block of Dugan Drive and crashed behind a house shortly after taking off from Mountain Valley Airport.

The names of the victims weren't immediately available. Both incidents have been turned over to federal investigators.
