BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Shots were fired, and one woman was injured overnight in a neighborhood near Ashe and Harris roads.

Police said the initial disturbance appeared to related to the minor brother of one of those involved, but police also said they are working to identify some suspects and establish a motive.

Some people, who haven't been identified, went to a home around midnight on Escondido Court and started a "disturbance," according to police. Christopher Nilsen, who lives at the home, confronted the people at the door while holding a gun, police said.

Nilsen "discarded the firearm and chased the suspects away from the door," police said. But, several other people were waiting outside and started shooting at Nilsen and his girlfriend, Stephanie Watson. Nilsen went back for his gun and shot back at the people.

Watson was shot in the leg, but no one else appeared to be injured, according to police. Watson's wound was labeled "moderate" by police.
