Princess Almonidovar was killed Jan. 3, 2014, by an alleged drunk driver in Bakersfield, Calif.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Charges were filed Thursday against a driver in a deadly Jan. 3 crash.

Princess Almonidovar was killed while making a left-hand turn onto New Stine Road from Ming Avenue. An allegedly drunk driver slammed into Almonidovar, who police said had the right of way.

Alex Rubio, 24, was allegedly also speeding when he hit Almonidovar's car. He was arrested that day, but charges weren't filed until Thursday, according to the Kern County court website.

Rubio has been charged with five felonies and a pair of misdemeanors. The felony charges include second-degree murder, gross-vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit-and run.

Almonidovar, 22, worked as a respiratory therapist at San Joaquin Community Hospital.
