BPD: Drugs, alcohol suspected in head-on crash

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Drugs and alcohol are suspected to be a factor in a head-on crash Saturday night on Planz Road that killed a 60-year-old Bakersfield man.

Officer were dispatched to the crash in the 4200 block of Planz Road around 9:22 p.m., according to a department news release.

The driver of one of the vehicles was pinned inside. He was freed by a Bakersfield Fire Department crew and transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. A passenger in the same vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to hospitals with injuries described as minor to moderate.

While police said drugs and alcohol are suspected to be a factor, they did not provide further information.

The driver who was killed was identified by coroner's investigators as Victor Porta. That news release said the crash happened in the 4300 block of Planz Road.
