School for people with autism to hold fundraising Run/Walkathon this weekend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The annual Run/Walkathon is Saturday for Valley Achievement Center, which is a school and adult program serving residents with autism spectrum disorders.

The festivities begin with a 5/10K run at 7 a.m., followed by the Walkathon at 8, both at The Park At River Walk. Runners can register at the park for $40 beginning at 6 a.m., according to V.A.C. Walkathon registration forms can be picked up at the V.A.C. administrative office, 1721 Westwind Drive, or downloaded at www.autism-vac.org.

A carnival with games, food and goodies will follow the Walkathon.

"State budget cuts have really hurt us the last few years," V.A.C. executive director Joe Tallman said in a news release. "Fundraisers like the Run/Walkathon help us make additions to our programs to create the best possible experience for all our students and participants."
