CSUB to break ground this weekend on $19 million arts center

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — California State University, Bakersfield is breaking ground Saturday on a $19 million, 9,000-square-foot arts center.

"This simply gives the Art Department what it has always deserved: adequate studio facilities for the work they do in training the next generation of artists," Richard Collins, dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, said in a news release Wednesday.

The CSUB Fine Art Center will be built on the northwest corner of campus, adjacent to and slightly behind the Frances Doré Theater. It's slated to open for use in fall 2014 and will house classroom and studio space for drawing, sculpture, digital arts, outdoor kilns and a ceramics room.
