BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man shot twice Monday morning at a man burglarizing his vehicle, according to police.

Officers were called around 5:30 a.m. to an apartment complex at 1400 Calcutta Drive. The vehicle owner reported catching the burglar in the act. He told officers that he pulled out a gun to keep the burglar from running off.

The vehicle owner told officers that he fired twice when he felt threatened by the burglar, who ran away before officers arrived, according to police.

No signs were found that the burglar was injured. Bullet strikes were found in the parking lot and a stucco wall.

Police are investigating the lawfulness of the shooting, and the man's gun was seized during the investigation. That man's name was withheld.

Police only described the burglar as black, male, 20s to 30s, 6-foot tall, thin build, wearing a plaid hooded jacket, dark pants and a hat.
