Police: Driver of this van may have committed sexual battery

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Police want help finding the driver of a van seen in a surveillance photo released Monday.

The department said a woman accepted a ride from a stranger June 16 near the 2700 block of Ming Avenue, by the Valley Plaza Mall. During the ride, the woman claims the man repeatedly touched her inappropriately, and she objected, according to police.

The driver pushed the woman out of the van and stole her purse on Chester Avenue south of Truxtun Avenue, police said.

The driver was described as a Hispanic man in his early or mid-30s, 5-foot-10, 230 to 245 pounds, wearing a blue jump suit with a name tag.

Anyone with information helpful to the investigation is asked to call Detective Rex Davenport at (661) 326-3559.
