Mock funeral drives home the need to stop violence

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — It's not everyday you see a casket in the back of a motorcycle hearse followed by dozens of people marching down a street, but it's what some local residents say is occurring almost everyday in Kern County - and it needs to come to and end.

Local residents and community activists participated in a mock funeral Saturday at Union Cemetery to help bring attention to the problem of gang violence.

Cease Fire organizers say there needs to be more options available for many youngsters traveling down the wrong path, and they want to work with the community to come up with ways to help them to finally see the light.

For help, you can call community activist Shawanna Baughn at (347) 336-2183, Pastor Donte Heath at (661) 379-2990,  Pastor Gabriel Nash (424) 789-1360 or Pastor Antonio Alfred (661) 496-6964.
