Kern Fire: House fire started by kids playing with matches

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Fire officials say two kids started a house fire on Alberta Street on Friday evening when they were playing with matches in a garage.

The fire, which started at around 5:45 p.m. Friday, caused about $50,000 worth of damage to the house.

Firefighters arrived to the 800 block of Alberta Street to find the garage fully engulfed in flames.

As firefighters set in on attacking the fire, officials said additional crew members started treating a person with minor arm burns.

That person was eventually taken to a local hospital for further treatment of the burns they got while trying to put out the flames, Kern Fire said.

Fire officials would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to talk to their kids about fire safety. For safety tips visit their website.
