Suspicious object shuts down east-side intersection

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- Bakersfield police closed the intersection of Owens and Lake Streets Saturday morning because of a suspicious object.

The object was discovered around 9 a.m. and was not blocking traffic. But the roadway was closed as a precaution because the object was found in a canal which runs under the roadway.

The bomb squad was called out to deal with the object. The area was rendered safe and the intersection reopened around 12:30 p.m.
