Former Bakersfield councilman arrested on spousal battery allegation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Police say a former City Council member has been arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor spousal battery.

Mark Salvaggio, who was a city councilman from 1985 to 2004, was arrested Wednesday after officers responded to a domestic violence call in the 2200 block of Woolard Drive, according to police spokeswoman Michaela Beard.

Salvaggio was booked into Kern County jail but has since been released.

Beard didn't offer additional details of the investigation.

Eyewitness News placed a call to Salvaggio and left a message seeking comment.
