BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Motorists are warned of construction closures in the coming days around Highway 58 and Cottonwood Road.

The westbound on-ramp from Cottonwood Road to Hwy. 58 is scheduled for closure for roadway repair from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, according to the Thomas Roads Improvement Program.

Drivers are also warned of nighttime lane closures, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., on Hwy. 58 through Thursday night to allow the contractor for the State Route 58 Gap Closure project to work on the bridges crossing over Cottonwood Road.

TRIP said Cottonwood Road will need to be closed between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. both nights, and from 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. Jan. 21. A detour should be set up by using either Madison Street to the west or Washington Street to the east of Cottonwood Road, according to roads officials.

During daytime hours, the contractor will also continue to work within the freeway median. The work is being performed behind concrete barriers, but drivers are asked to remain alert.
