BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — An alleged drunk driver was in court Tuesday to answer to multiple charges, including murder.

Alfredo Moreno pleaded not guilty in a Kern County courtroom to charges of second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, hit-and-run, and more.

Moreno is accused in a crash that killed a baby, LayJah Heath. The crash occurred Jan. 19 at South Union Avenue and Berkshire Road. The girl died a few days later at Children's Hospital Of Central California.

"No matter how much I cry, no matter how much I pray, my baby's not coming back, as a result from somebody driving drunk," the 6-month-old girl's mother, Faith Mozeke Heath, said outside the courtroom on Monday. Moreno's arraignment had been scheduled for Monday but was postponed a day.

Moreno is free on a $112,600 surety bond.
