BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A Kern SWAT team helped deputies arrest a man who barricaded himself in the attic of his Oildale home early Sunday morning after he reportedly violently assaulted a man and threatened others, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies were called out to the house in the 10100 block of Green Acres Drive just after 2 a.m. Sunday for a reported assault.
Over the phone, a man told dispatchers that Robert Shields, 41, of Bakersfield, attacked him and was threatening to kill him and others at the house.
Deputies said that when they arrived on scene, Shields fled to his house in the 300 block of Redwood Meadows Drive in Oildale.
The sheriff's office said deputies followed Shields inside the house, and he barricaded himself in the attic.
After trying to convince Shields to come out, officials called the Kern County SWAT team to the house.
Shields surrendered about an hour later, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies booked Shields into the Kern County Jail for assault causing great bodily injury, criminal threats and participation in a criminal street gang.
