BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A woman was sexually assaulted around 11:30 a.m. Monday when she unlocked a door and stepped into her garage to investigate a noise.

The home is located on the 8700 block of Fox Run Drive, a neighborhood south of Brimhall and west of Coffee Road.

Police said the woman was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

The attack came on the heels of several attacks in the months of July and August, including four by an apparent serial rapist in east Bakersfield.

Despite the attack, there have been 36 rapes thus far in 2013, compared to 44 during at the same point in 2012, according to police.

The man in the Fox Run Drive attack was described as bald and Latino, about 5-foot-8, in his 30s with a goatee and tattoos on the right side of his neck and both arms.

He left the area in a tan or silver four-door sedan.
