BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The city and the Thomas Roads Improvement Program held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday for the western end of the Westside Parkway.
This phase of the Westside Parkway will extend the freeway from Allen Road to Heath Road at Stockdale Highway. The project includes 2 miles of freeway, sound barriers and a bridge at Renfro Road.
Construction is expected to take 18 months to complete.
Westside Parkway is a new east-west freeway extending from Truxtun Avenue to Heath Road. The Truxtun Tie-in will complete the east end of the new freeway between Mohawk Street and Truxtun Avenue.
Thursday, officials estimated the freeway will be open by fall 2014.
