Work to start this week on Hwy 178, Morning Drive interchange

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - Construction is expected to start this week on the interchange at Highway 178 and Morning Drive.

According to a memo from the office of city manager Alan Tandy, the contractor is scheduled to start with clearing and grubbing operations on the south side of 178 near Canteria Drive and work west towards Morning Drive.

Concrete barriers will also be placed near the intersection late next week.

The contractor and construction management firm are in the process of setting up field offices on Panorama Drive, east of Morning Drive. Those are expected to be operational within a week.

The work, which is part of the Thomas Roads Improvement Project, will expand the two-lane highway to four lanes in key areas.

It's expected to take about two years to complete.
