Police: Woman survives being shot in head by boyfriend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A woman was hospitalized Saturday night after she was shot in the head in her eastern Bakersfield home.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office said it received a call about a domestic disturbance in the 900 block of Royal Way at around 8:45 p.m. Saturday. Deputies arrived on scene to find that a woman had been shot in the head.

Officials said the woman was alert and communicating with deputies when she was taken to the hospital.

The sheriff's office arrested the woman's live-in boyfriend, 25-year-old Ignacio Gonzales, for attempted murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

The victim's niece, Karla Maldonado, was at the house with the family when her aunt was shot.

"When we opened the door she was already on the floor - bleeding - and we just took her outside. She was bleeding everywhere," said Maldonado.

Officials said that their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
