BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man who shot a market owner during a robbery over the summer was sentenced Friday to more than 17 years in prison.

Virginio Zurita, 21, was also injured in an August exchange of gunfire with the owner of La Perla Market, 60-year-old Fawzi Musaad.

Zurita pleaded no contest last month to a count of second-degree attempted robbery, and charges of attempted murder and assault with a firearm were dismissed.
