BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man died after being hit by a car on Mt. Vernon Avenue just before 10 p.m. Saturday, California Highway Patrol said.
Officers at the scene said the man was crossing at the Quincy St. intersection at around 9:55 p.m. Saturday when he was hit by a black sedan headed north on Mt. Vernon.
He was taken to Kern Medical Center where he died in the emergency room nearly 20 minutes after being hit.
As of Sunday afternoon CHP officials said they haven't issued charges against the driver.
Both the man and the driver's names are being withheld while CHP conducts their investigation.
