Help wanted to ID man suspected of assaulting kid during bike theft
The sheriff's office is asking for help to identify this man captured on surveillance video Jan. 2, 2014, inside the Mi Familia Market at 1324 Flower St.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man who allegedly stole a bicycle at the Mi Familia Market was caught on surveillance video, and the Kern County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help to identify him.

A sheriff's spokesman said the alleged thief could also face assault charges for allegedly knocking down the 11-year-old boy who owned the bicycle.

The theft happened around 2 p.m. Jan. 2 at the market at 1324 Flower St.

The alleged thief removed the BMX-style bicycle that was parked in front of the market as he left the store. Investigators said the boy noticed the man riding his bike and ran out of the store and began chasing him. The alleged thief stopped riding, knocked the boy to the ground and then rode away, the sheriff's office said.
