BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Eighteen people were arrested after a two-day special operation by the Kern County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies conducted the operation near the Bakersfield Country Club after a slew of burglaries and thefts were reported in the area.

Sheriff's department officials said they noticed a drastic increase in crime in the homes around the country club beginning several months ago.

Deputies patrolled the area Wednesday and Thursday looking for those who don't belong.

They looked over approximately a 1-square-mile area around the country club and took 18 people into custody. None of those arrested were charged with the recent burglaries and thefts.

Seven individuals were taken into custody for felony warrants. Seven people were arrested for misdemeanor warrants. Three people were taken into custody for alleged misdemeanor crimes, and one person was arrested for an alleged traffic violation.

The sheriff's office said the sweep was part of an ongoing project, with additional operations planned in the near future.
