BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The defendant in a love-triangle murder was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison.

Danny Leon Mathis was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old Ruben Torres, whose body was discovered in the trunk of a car in Weldon after he had been beaten to death.

Torres reportedly had sex with Mathis' love interest, Chasidy Wilhite, which sparked the retaliation killing.

Wilhite tried to run down an Eyewitness News crew with her minivan shortly after Mathis' arrest in January 2012. That video is below.
