BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Dozens of teachers were honored Tuesday at a reception for the annual Kern County Teacher of the Year awards.

Of the 57 teachers nominated, only two and one alternate will go on to represent Kern County in the California Teacher of the Year competition in November.

Each of the nominees was selected for the award by their schools and districts. A committee of educators and community leaders reviewed all the applications and then visited the top candidate's schools.

Each of the 57 nominees went home with plaques and certificates handed out during the reception at the Bakersfield Museum of Art.

The winners are: Delano Joint Union High School District music teacher Alex Gonzales, Sierra Middle School science teacher Robert Hodash and Blanton Education Center science teacher Ogden Kiesel (alternate).
