Shafter DMV office closing for summer renovations

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Shafter field office of the California Department of Motor Vehicles will close Friday evening and not reopen until Sept. 3.

The Shafter DMV has been in its current location since 1968 and needs renovations, according to the state agency. The office, 528 Walker St., will be expanded to 4,100 square feet from 3,300 square feet, and 23 parking spots will be added.

That field office serves an average of 272 customers daily, according to the DMV.

During the closure, customers are advised to use nearby DMV offices:

  • Bakersfield, 3120 F St., 17 miles away
  • Bakersfield Southwest, 7000 Schirra Court, 24 miles away
  • Delano, 631 Jefferson St., 24 miles away
