DELANO, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) - A senior recreation facility was destroyed Thursday by fire.

About 80 percent of the roof collapsed as fire consumed the 9,000-square-foot structure, according to Kern County firefighters.

The call came in around 4:15 a.m. A large amount of smoke could be seen coming from the building on the 400 block of Jefferson Avenue, the fire department said.

Jefferson was closed between Garces Highway and 6th Street to allow emergency vehicles.

No injuries were reported. The total dollar value of the damage has yet to be determined.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
