BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield College begins its spring semester Tuesday with nearly 650 more students than last spring.

The school said it's up to almost 16,000 students, a 4 percent increase from a year ago. The enrollment is spread over its main campus in northeast Bakersfield, a downtown location and a Delano campus.

BC said it added 29 course sections and is continuing to restructure offerings to focus on core and transfer disciplines, such as math, sciences and English.

More than 100 classes still have openings, the college said.
